Anyone who identifies as female or genderqueer*, who is currently enrolled in a graduate program or has recently graduated (up to 5 years post) from a Master's/PhD program. We pride ourselves on being is a CV builder for emerging scholars. We are based in Canada, but are open to domestic and global submissions.

We are accepting submissions from historians or those in a related field, including art history, museum studies, library studies, archeology, gender studies, tourism, anthropology, classics, etc. If you study history in any capacity, and have written a paper with a historical-lens, submit it!

All articles must be cited in Chicago Citation Style with footnotes and a corresponding bibliography. If you submit your article in APA/MLA, you will still be considered, but please note that you will be required to convert your citations to Chicago if your article is chosen. Our team will not change your citations for you.

By submitting your article, you are guaranteeing that your research is completely your own work, without plagiarism or the help of AI. Your article must be summited with full and correct citations. Any work suspected of plagiarism or AI generation will not be accepted.  

If your article is selected for publication, you will be contacted by our team about the next steps. Before publication, your article will undergo a copy-edit process where it will be checked for grammar, legibility, spelling, syntax, and accessibility. We will not peer-review your research.

You can submit up to two articles, but only one can be selected for publication. To submit a second article, please submit an additional application form.

At this time, we are a volunteer publication. All submissions are done on a voluntary basis. However, should you be published with us, we are an excellent CV builder and can be added to your resumes, website bios, and LinkedIn as a publication!

Volume Three is entitled "Made With Love" and encourages the submissions on historical topics including (but not limited to): diverse communities, art, architecture, objects, protest, food history, fashion, public history, collective memory, heritage, storytelling, legends and myths, humanity, emotions, and whatever else you think fits! Articles must be between 2000-3500 words (excluding bibliography and footnotes) on a historical subject. You can write an article just for us, or you can submit something from your vault (i.e course work, previous major papers, etc) Casual or academic tone is acceptable.

• We are not accepting historiographies or book reviews.

• All submissions must be on the topic of history.

No. Historically Modern is a non-peer reviewed publication. By submitting an article, you stand by the quality and factuality of your research.

You will be contacted via email no later then August 31st if your article has been selected for publication. Only those accepted will be contacted.
